  21. Embrace change.

Below you’ll find some helpful details on all the above tips. When we master how to live in harmony with the earth and one another, we’re happier and more at peace.

Deep-Cleaning for Happiness

It may seem trivial, but cleaning yourself and your surroundings can be a microcosmic way to live in harmony with the universe.

When we look at the very center of our universe, we find the Sun, which is like the size of a basketball compared to the pea-sized planets revolving around it. It’s HUGE compared to Earth.

It’s clear that we should look to the qualities of the Sun, first and foremost, when we want to live in harmony with the universe.

Sunlight helps clean the air and has antibacterial properties.

The Sun has antiseptic qualities. Natural light from the Sun has a built-in quality that cleans and purifies many surfaces it shines on.

When we clean our surroundings, we’re capturing a positive quality of the Sun. In today’s day and age, people are getting better at cleaning surfaces, sanitizing, and practicing good hygiene.

Gardening for Stress Relief

Gardening for stress relief

On a practical level, planting a garden is a great way to live in harmony with the universe.

Surrounding yourself with greenery and a high-oxygen environment can help connect you to the roots of this planet that revolves so faithfully around the Sun.

There are a ton of health-promoting benefits that have been scientifically proven as a result of gardening. We know that being healthy is in alignment with a harmonious universe.

Social Media Rude Behavior

It’s unfortunate that social media has become more of a place for debate, jealousy, and criticism.

What should serve as a supportive platform for friends to connect and share, it’s become an out of control train wreck for many people.

One way to live more in harmony with the universe is to be polite on social media. As the famous saying goes, if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.

The tongue is a sword. Use it wisely.

Words can be more damaging than physical blows. Social media debates often get heated and verbally-abusive. We’ve all seen it.

Create an Uplifting Music Playlist

Living in harmony with the universe isn’t about being depressed and discouraged. Unfortunately, a lot of the music out there makes people end up feeling sad, skeptical, angry, longing, or depressed after listening.

  • Music has the power to change emotions and feelings.

If you ask any person on the street if they’d rather feel happy or sad, it’s a 99% bet that most people would say they want to feel HAPPY.

If we want to control our emotional state, choosing music that is uplifting goes a long way to spread positive energy around you.

If you feel happy, others are going to pick up on that. And your vibe will spread to them.

We do a great service to ourselves and to others by controlling our emotional state with positive and uplifting music.

Follow Rules at Work

We all know it’s hard sometimes to follow all the rules at work 100% of the time. But when we look at the order, laws, and precise rules of the universe, we see that we live more in harmony with each other when we also conform to a structure that supports order.

Rules are there for the sake of order and understanding. They aren’t created for the sake of punishing or annoying anyone, even though it seems like that sometimes.

Peace and harmony in the workplace are keys to success.

Without rules, the bathrooms at work would get dirty. Customers would get disappointed. Jobs would be left unfinished. And workers would fight because there was nothing to define who was right or wrong.

We should never work for anyone that sets unreasonable rules. If so, you should leave the job immediately.

But if you generally agree to the rules and see that they’re for the highest good and to promote order, it’s best we follow them for the sake of harmony.

Keep Learning and Growing in Knowledge

Did you know the universe is constantly expanding? If we want to live in harmony with it, we can also keep expanding our mental faculties by immersing ourselves in new books, knowledge, and skills.

Once you stop learning, you start dying.

Albert Einstein

Learning doesn’t have to be done like we did it in school. That’s mostly boring and hard to keep up.

We can learn by watching videos online for free or just by cruising some informative articles on the internet. There’s so much free information out there; it’s not always necessary to get a formal education.

A home cook opened one of the most famous chocolatiers and truffle shops in the world based on what they learned on YouTube. True story.

Keep Your Body Healthy

The universe supports life and health for our planet. When we support life and health for ourselves, we live more in harmony with the universe.

We are healthier when we take care of our bodies.

Under your doctor’s supervision, it’s important to:

  • Eat right.
  • Get appropriate medical care.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Be strong.
  • Build endurance.
  • Stay flexible.

Nowadays there’s an abundance of free information out there.

I practice yoga at home for free every week. Here’s a video by my favorite yoga instructor, Travis Eliot:

Seeing Other Points of View

In a universe that depends on many different components to create the whole system, so we must learn to work together as humanity in order to establish harmony.

Instead of thinking the world revolves around one person and their ego, it’s best when we put many minds together to create a higher mind and unified perspective.

Two minds are often more powerful than one.

No man is an island.

John Donne

When we take time to genuinely understand another person’s point of view, we’re able to zoom out of our little box and get a more mature perspective.

  • Healthy collaboration, constructive debate, sharing of ideas, and building upon each others’ success are effective ways to live in harmony with the universe.

Love One Another

One of the best ways to live in harmony with the universe is to love one another.

In a world filled with division, criticism, and competition, it’s easy to put love on the back burner. It’s every man for himself.

Love doesn’t have to be annoying, fake, or over-the-top. Sometimes it’s just opening the door for someone. Or smiling at someone you know is lonely.

How many kinds of love are there?

Love can take many forms:

  1. Compassion
  2. Kindness
  3. Thoughtfulness
  4. Humility
  5. Encouragement
  6. Respect
  7. Hope
  8. Sacrifice
  9. Generosity
  10. Patience
  11. Caring Words
  12. Endurance
  13. Composure
  14. Trust
  15. Protection
  16. Forgiveness
  17. Help
  18. Praise
  19. Truth
  20. Romance

Learn Effective Communication Skills

Living in harmony with the universe includes learning effective communication skills.

It’s important that we learn how to express ourselves at the right time and in the right way. Without harmonious communication, we create more division between each other.

Let every man be quick to listen and slow to speak.

Book of James

Remember that good communication equally involves:

  • Listening AND
  • Speaking

Many people believe that communication means having a one-sided conversation. Good communication is about genuinely listening to what the other person is saying and considering it thoughtfully.

No one likes a person that talks too much.

Nurture Your Emotional Health

One way to live in harmony with the universe is to nurture your emotional health. If you struggle in this area, you might be pleased to discover the relief some professional guidance can offer.

Taking care of one’s mental and emotional health has become just as popular and necessary as taking care of one’s physical health. It’s a wise and respected option these days. Many insurance companies are covering more mental health visits, realizing the benefit and medical necessity of them.

When we’re happier, we’re better equipped to help and serve others who are suffering. If we’re miserable, we’re less motivated to help others.

Develop Self-Discipline

The universe flows in perfect order with a specific rhythm in time and space. This flow reminds us of the importance of maintaining structure and order in our own lives.

Without exacting order, the universe as we know it would fall apart. And so would we.

Discipline is choosing between what you want now, and what you want most.

Abraham Lincoln

Developing self-discipline can be done slowly over time. A little step towards your goal each day goes a long way.

Denying yourself in a healthy way for the sake of moving towards your goal is a great way to practice discipline.

Self-discipline gives us great rewards in the long-run. It refines our character, strengthens our will, and empowers us to live in harmony with each other and with the universe.

So put down the bag of chips and get to work. : )

Find a Spiritual Practice that Works for You

It’s a widely-accepted phenomenon that spirituality is a very real thing. So real that it’s written on the currency of the United States: “In God we Trust”. Places of worship and religion are common in the world and embraced by most cultures.

Having a spiritual practice can be beneficial to one’s health, mood, longevity, and overall well-being.

If we want to be in harmony with the universe, having a spiritual practice helps tremendously. It deals with the activation and clearing of the unseen realm of consciousness, which is a real force. Some people call it God. Some people call it the Universe. Whatever it’s called, it’s real.

The freedom to practice any religion is a fundamental value and right in American lives.

Spiritual practice can take many forms:

  • Meditation
  • Prayer
  • Religion
  • Yoga
  • Charity
  • Doing kind acts
  • Studying spiritual texts such as the Holy Bible
  • Volunteering for a good cause
  • Engaging in spiritual music
  • Deep-breathing practices
  • Body cleansing and purification

Tapping into this concept on a daily basis can be rewarding on a level never thought possible.

Benefits of a spiritual practice:

  1. It can transform and improve relationships.
  2. It can bring joy to a person’s life.
  3. It can promote good health.
  4. It can restore peace.

Now who wouldn’t want those things?

Practice Assertiveness When Appropriate

The universe is full of power, energy, and strength. If we live in harmony with these forces, we find ourselves practicing assertiveness when appropriate.

Assertiveness is standing up for what is right, even when it’s hard. It’s having the courage to do what’s right in the face of difficulty.

Doing the right thing means:

  • No one gets hurt.
  • People use their brains to reason instead of violence.
  • Actions are taken to restore peace.
  • Both sides of the story are thoughtfully considered and discussed with the goal of a mutual agreement.
  • A peaceful compromise is made.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Assertiveness is using power with intelligence, compassion, and discernment for the sake of justice and peace.

Establish Healthy Leadership

As all the planets revolve around the Sun, humans do better with a respectable leader. We live in harmony with the universe when our leaders set reasonable rules that put the welfare of humanity above individual gain.

You must always remember that to lead, one must first learn to follow.

Haile Selassie

If we’re assigned to lead in whatever group we find ourselves in, we should embrace it with great responsibility and compassion for everyone involved. If there’s someone else who could do a better job, then by all means the most qualified person should fill the position and we should step down.

Ego should never take priority over serving others when in a position of leadership.

Be Devoted to One Another and to a Higher Purpose

To live in harmony with the universe, we find success when we practice devotion to one another for the sake of peace, life, and unity.

As a mother is devoted to her baby, we can be devoted to each other for the sake of life.

In a world where relationships are repeatedly cut-off and destroyed for self-gain, we lose our connection to a higher cause that unites us all.

When we work together through difficulty and challenge for a higher purpose, we achieve success for the whole instead of the individual. That provides us with a longer-lasting outcome that supports harmony in the universe.

Devotion is sticking it out through thick and thin. It’s about “we”, not “me”.

The practice of devotion to a higher cause gives much more power and harmony to humanity and the universe alike. The sooner we break apart and divide into pieces of self-interest, our power diminishes and suffering increases.

  • There is no division in devotion.

Get Organized

The universe is extremely organized. It runs on strict calculations and follows cyclic seasons, patterns, and planetary motion in exacting order. The universe isn’t sloppy or lazy. It’s strict and operates in a steady and predictable manner.

  • If we want to live in harmony with the universe, we should also be organized, timely, and reliable.

We can start by getting organized in our personal lives. A few basic areas to get organized are:

  • Your car
  • Your house
  • Your office space
  • Your schedule
  • Your friends
  • Your eating routine
  • Your time set aside for daily spiritual practice

Using a weekly calendar or planner can go a long way in getting organized. It helps reduce mental and physical clutter, leaving room for more peace, flow, and harmony in your life.

Turn Your Home into a Haven of Comfort

We spend a good number of hours per day at home. Since we spend so much time there, why not have it be in an environment that’s as comfortable and pleasant as possible?

Each person is an important part of the universe. If everyone lives in a dirty cluttered home full of junk food, that’s going to negatively affect their state of mind in the long run. If large numbers of people do the same, they’re likely to collectively emit a gloomy vibe to the world in one way or another.

Peace starts at home and within.

If you see something in your home that makes you think a negative thought, that’s when you know it’s time to do something about it.

Here’s a quick-start guide to get your home in better shape:

  • Bag up the things you no longer need or use and donate them.
  • Do all your laundry and put it away.
  • Clean everything and vacuum.
  • Stock your kitchen with healthy food.
  • Invest in luxury natural bedding. Organic linen sheets and duvet covers are my favorite. Here’s an article on natural linen.
  • Buy something for your home that makes YOU feel good.
  • Get the bathtub area cleaned, organized, stocked with plush towels, candles, natural soap, and your favorite bath salts.

Be Part of an Organization that Helps Humanity

Living in harmony with the universe is all about serving each other, in one way or another. Humans are more powerful in numbers.

Not all organizations are suited to all individuals. The key is to choose a group that’s the right fit for you.

There are many different types of group activities you can join:

  • Feeding the homeless or disadvantaged families
  • Yoga and meditation groups
  • Animal rescue and support
  • Visiting and helping the elderly or those who are ill
  • Religion or your local church
  • Support for those recovering from addiction
  • Mission trips providing relief to areas of poverty

It’s important that accountability, transparency, honesty, and mutual communication serve as foundational features within the group.

Any organization that tries to control and manipulate the individual is usually not the best fit. Always follow your gut feeling.

  • When we serve others, we forget ourselves and experience joy through their benefit.

Simplify and Minimize

To live in harmony with the universe, it’s much easier when we simplify our lives. When our minds are caught up with too many tasks, schedules, and clutter, our attention gets scattered, leaving us depleted.

Less is more.

It’s a great art to learn how to let go.

When we learn how to live with only the things that truly serve and benefit us, we’re happier and have greater clarity. Getting rid of old energy can be liberating.

My general rule is this: if I haven’t used it in a year, I get rid of it. This policy usually works well for me.

The western world has somehow been brainwashed to think we need new stuff all the time. And store it. And let it stack up in the closet. And fill up the junk drawer.

A good measure of how well you’re doing with clutter in your life is to take a look at your designated junk drawer in the house. I’ve noticed that people with clean junk drawers tend to be even-tempered and composed.

  • Minimizing “stuff” in life can be very rewarding.

Embrace Change

We live more in harmony with the universe when we embrace change. It’s realistic to see that there’s nothing on this planet that lasts forever.

Holding onto the past or expecting things to always stay the same just isn’t reasonable.

  • When we open ourselves to the ever-fluctuating flow of change, we can ride on top of the current instead of sink.

Change is the only constant in life.

Heraclitus

It’s difficult for us to move forward when we’re fixated on the past or on things that no longer work. Getting stuck in a rut attracts negative energy and will eventually be done away with.

We see that the cycle of nature repeats itself every year through the 4 seasons. We can’t expect a bush to produce flowers year-round. It must go through a process of constant change.

If we think we should be producing flowers all the time, that just isn’t realistic.

We’re lighter and stronger when we embrace change.

  • Go with the flow.

How Can We Live in Harmony?

We live in harmony when we approach each other with a united mindset, as opposed to a divided mindset. It’s about being able to consider other points of view without automatic discrimination and judgment.

Every opinion and point of view is truth to that individual. The key is to always present facts that can be undoubtedly proven in order to come upon a compromise or agreement.

It’s best not to make emotional decisions unless they can be supported by fact. This gets people into jumping to conclusions based on feelings instead of physical evidence in the real world.

  • Fact-based decisions are better than feeling-based decisions when it comes to living in harmony with others.

We’re all sharing the same planet. It’s best if we can learn how to get along in peace and harmony with one another.

Hatred divides. Love and respect unify.

Conclusion

If we want to know how to live in harmony with the universe, we do better when we learn how to unite in our thinking, as opposed to dividing.

When we realize we’re all in this together, despite our differences, we end up with greater success and overall happiness.

The following 7 actions help us live more in harmony with the universe:

  1. Unified-thinking
  2. Love one another
  3. Respectful communication
  4. Help and nurture one another
  5. Ensure justice
  6. Keep learning and growing
  7. Take care of your body

How do you live in harmony with yourself? When we practice the above 7 actions, we begin to notice that our internal peace is greatly expanded.

The funny thing is, when we reach out and consider others, we end up helping ourselves in the long run. It’s Newton’s third law: for every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction. When we help others, we help ourselves.

When we help others, we are living more in harmony with the universe. If we can zoom out and look at ourselves as human beings, as opposed to self, we can see the universal aspect of ourselves, not the planetary aspect.

Love is the force that unites us together. Hate is the force that divides.

Hate is becoming quickly outdated in today’s world. We see how it destroys and creates suffering. In an already-broken world, it doesn’t make sense to keep breaking it down further. Why add fire to fire when it’s already at ground zero?

There’s a wise saying to love our enemies. But what does that really mean? It’s easier to practice tolerance before love. If we can start there, we do better. Tolerance is a lighter form of love.

Is it time to start over?

Carpe diem.
